About the University

The University of Houston, established in 1927, has grown from its origins as Houston Junior College to become the fourth-largest university in Texas. Offering a diverse array of 310-degree programs across fifteen colleges and an interdisciplinary honors college, the institution enrolls approximately 37,000 undergraduate and 10,000 graduate students annually. With its nine professional schools covering areas such as architecture, business, hospitality, law, medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, and social work, the university provides a comprehensive educational experience to its large and diverse student body.

Spanning 894 acres primarily in southeast Houston, the university's campus also includes instructional sites in Sugar Land and Katy, reflecting its commitment to accessibility and outreach. As the founding campus of the University of Houston System, the institution has established itself as a leader in higher education in the region. Admissions to the undergraduate programs are considered "more selective," with a student body comprised predominantly of Texas residents, supplemented by international students representing over 130 nations, contributing to the university's vibrant and multicultural community.

With a total student population of 46,700, including a significant proportion of international students, the University of Houston offers a rich academic environment characterized by its extensive undergraduate and graduate program offerings. Admission requirements, including a high school certificate with a GPA of 3.0 for undergraduates and a bachelor's degree with a 3.0 GPA for graduate applicants, ensure that students admitted to the university demonstrate strong academic potential and readiness to excel in their chosen fields of study. As a prominent higher educational institute in the United States, the University of Houston continues to attract students seeking a quality education in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
