About the University
Established in 1867 by the Vincentian community under the leadership of the Most Rev. John Loughlin, St. John's University, originally St. John's College, embarked on its educational journey in Brooklyn with a modest beginning of six faculties and 47 students. Over time, it grew in stature and influence, obtaining the status of a university in 1906 and assuming the name St. John's University, New York in 1954. Today, it stands as a beacon of academic excellence, comprising six colleges and schools and holding esteemed memberships in organizations such as the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.
Offering a diverse array of over 100 programs spanning business, education, health sciences, liberal arts, and professional studies, St. John's University caters to the educational needs of a vibrant student body comprising 21,346 individuals from 45 U.S. states and 118 countries.
